Alpine mountains to the west, rocky ranges to the south and dry tussock covered hills to the east dominate the landscape, and all assist in the topographical elements of this most exceptional of terroirs. In between all of this grandness, on the lush valley floors are nestled the Nanny Goat Vineyards. Soils are rocky and offer poor fertility, conditions which are heaven sent for growing world class Pinot Noir fruit. The microclimates deliver small berries in the vineyard, bursting with flavours, concentrated with intense varietal characters, intertwined with stalky tannins and fruit laden acidsNanny Goat Vineyard Pinot Noir is all about finesse and layers of complexity, winemaker Ant Moore concentrates on making wines that show varietal and regional cherry fruits, with oak balance and tannin structure. Raised in the Hunter Valley, winemaker Ant Moore studied Wine Science at Charles Sturt University before taking on winemaking positions, both boutique and commercial within Australia and the USA. He was then drawn to New Zealand, accepting the role of Winemaker for Isabel Estate in Marlborough for 2 years before leaving to pursue dreams of his own. Ant now has his own vineyard (70 acres) named Ants Nest, based high on a ridge overlooking Marlborough’s Waihopai Valley.  “Those familiar with my involvement in Catalina Sounds Sauvignon Blanc, would know that one of the main reasons I live and work in New Zealand, is that I am constantly in awe of the diversity of the wine industry here and love to take advantage of the challenges each season brings in this country.
