Winery:Bollinger
Region:Champagne
Variety: Pinot Noir Chardonnay
Vintage: 2000

Your Wine Guy says:

Bollinger have stamped their name all over this beautifully crisp wine. Showing complex yeasty, biscuity characters along with sweet vanilla and intense citrus fruits on the nose. On the palate you’ll find these characters tantalisingly supplemented by some spice, finishing with dry refreshing acidity. 96 Points YWG

Critics say:

"Suggestions of wild strawberry, exotic spice, nuts and a bready yeast influence in a perfectly mature, wine lover's champagne!” -Sally Gudgeon & Ralph Kyte Powell

“House style is in full effect here, really edgy and complex yeasty characters, sweet and sour citrus fruits, freshly rolled bread dough, really fresh. The palate is a ball of intense fruit supplemented with woody spices, finishing with taut fresh acidity!" -Wine Business Monthly

Winery/Label Information:
La Grande Année is the prestige Cuvée of Bollinger, a beautifully rounded wine, rich and complex with intense aromas. Only ever produced when exceptional quality harvests occur. More than a representation of the vintage, La Grande Année is the result of the Bollinger style, exceptional terroir, of superior vineyards and masterful viniculture.
Bollinger is crafted to be a great wine in its own right, as well as being a very great Champagne. After bottling, the period of carbonic fermentation and cellar ageing are conducted under natural cork, a luxuriant measure which offers better protection against oxidization, as opposed to the usual metal crown cap. This method, seldom nowadays seen in Champagne, is a guarantee of freshness, ensuring sweet aromas, and the retainment of vital fruit bouquets.- Bollinger Wines

Vinification of Champagne wines in oak barrels is unique to Bollinger, a sign of dedication to quality and the affirmation of house style. From the careful selection of the best musts at harvest, to the prolonged ageing of wines in their cellars Bollinger ensures this high quality is maintained. Bollinger's choice to use oak during the making process of champagne gives their wines and a distinct identity of style.
