Winery: Sandalford Region: Margaret River Variety: Chardonnay Your Wine Guy says: Sandalford's Estate Range Chardonnay has always shown great complexity. Beautiful grapefruit, white peach and citrus fruit with some toasty vanillin oak on the nose. The palate is a bit more crisp than in previous vintages. Some malty oak flavours combine well with the intense fruit flavours and strong acidity. 93 Points YWG Critics say: "Delightful complexity of fig, melon and lemon-like aromas fill the glass, followed by a rich, lusciously juicy and very flavoursome palate with a long, lingering and very firm phenolic finish." 5 StarsWinestate (Australia) The winemaker says: Colour: Mid-straw with a lemon tint. Nose: A real elegantly styled wine on the nose with classic white stone fruit characters and nuances of subtle vanillin oak. Palate: I’d almost call this medium to full-bodied as opposed to a straight full bodied wine. Like the nose the stone fruit characters come to the fore with oak in support. The highlight however is the overall structure and balance of this wine with the acid contributing piquancy to the wine, perfectly in harmony with the fruit-sweetness and mineral textures elements of the palate. Drinking superbly now it will age gracefully for several more years to come. – Paul Boulden, Winemaker Sandalford Wines Winery/Label Information: Only the free-run juice was settled for 24 hours prior to 50% being racked to individual Burgundian French barriques and 50% to stainless steel. All barrels were individually inoculated with a variety of selected yeast strains. This wine is the first in our new philosophy of Chardonnay making whereby the alcohol is less than 14%, no MLF was undertaken and combined with less oak, makes this a fresher, more modern and appealing style. The wine then sat “sur lies” in these barrels for 6 months prior to blending, stabilisation, clarification and bottling. A minimal intervention wine where no expense has been spared. – Paul Boulden, Winemaker Sandalford Wines
