Winery: St Hallett Region: Barossa Variety: Shiraz Your Wine Guy says: St Hallett is blessed with a wealth of concentrated old vine fruit parcels that they can draw from to showcase the class of Barossa Valley Shiraz. The intensity of fruit that has been used to make this wine is evident even by looking at the glass, a dark inky purplish black. A spectrum of dark fruits and spicy oak greets the nose with hints of chocolate and mocha. The Blackwell then transfers these flavours onto the palate backed up by a well rounded mouth feel and fine tannin structure. 95 Points YWG Drink to 2018+ Critics say: “Strong crimson-purple; rich and concentrated, but with no dead or confit fruit flavours; excellent texture and structure.” Screwcap. 14.5% alc.Drink to: 2020. 94 Points James HallidayAustralian Wine Companion 2010 “There’s a good clip of toasty clove oak with lush black and red fruits, a spicy sauciness and liquorice/aniseed richness. Then a big chewy mouthful of flavour with smooth but loose knit grainy tannins that coat the mouth - it really pushes through and keeps on going. Full but not all hot and heavy like so many - certainly delicious. If you like a good Barossa Shiraz then it’s time to dip your bucket into the old Blackwell once again.” 94 points Drink to 2016 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front "Dark and dense, but not heavy, with ripe blueberry and cherry flavors among the cream and spice notes that mingle on the polished finish!" Winespectator.com The winemaker says: Colour: Dense, inky dark red with purple hues. Nose: Forward raspberry and black forest fruits tantalise the senses with subtle chocolate tones on the nose. Palate: The dense, brooding palate is filled with black forest fruits, blending seamlessly with chocolate flavours, finishing with textured, rolling tannins.- St Hallett Wines Winery/Label Information: Stuart Blackwell, winemaker since 1973, has evolved St Hallett's Barossa Shiraz to icon status. Blackwell Shiraz is named in recognition of his foresight and commitment. As St Hallett’s reserve Shiraz, Blackwell is big and bold exuding the power and brooding density to the Barossa has to offer. The fruit is picked at full ripeness to gain optimum power and concentration of fruit flavour and a dense, inky colour. Each parcel of Shiraz is individually matched to one of a selection of American oak barrels in which the wine spends two years maturing and gaining considerable texture and power prior to release.- St Hallett Wines
