The ‘Black Label’ has a very well deserved reputation for outstanding quality under $40 per bottle. The 2009 is deep red with quite a dark core. The nose needs a little time to open up and then shows somelifted blackcurrant and qualitycedaryoak with the classicCoonawarraminty-nessalong with some blackberry and dark cherry notes. As you would expect, the characters from the nose follow on to the palate with excellent intensity and concentratedflavoursof dark berry fruits with the slightly toasty oak rounding out a great balance between strong fruit and a good tannin structure. Wynns Coonawarra Estate was the first winery to be established in Coonawarra, by John Riddoch in 1896. The winery is located on the world famous strip of 'Terra Rossa' soil that produces fruit of an exceptionally high quality, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon. Today Wynns Coonawarra Estate is the Coonawarra's pre-eminent wine producer, with the largest holding of the region's best and oldest vineyards.
