Winery: Wynn’s
Region: Coonawarra
Variety: Shiraz

Your Wine Guy says:
Wynns Coonawarra Estate Shiraz has always shown great reliability when it comes to value for money and flavour. The Wynns Shiraz has a well earned reputation for high quality at a very reasonable price. The nose shows typical Shiraz pepper with some generous dark berry fruit notes with some toasty oak. These characters follow on to the palate with quite a silky mouthfeel for a young Shiraz (a testament to the high-class Coonawarra fruit) finding good balance between strong fruit and a good tannin structure.

Critics say:
"This has deeper fruit flavour than recent releases and is all the better for it. Rich and plummy and velvety. What more could you ask for in an affordable Wynns Shiraz? There’s a bit of toasty oak, lots of good, smooth mouthfeel and a fruit-rich finish. I haven’t enjoyed drinking a Wynns White Label Shiraz like this for years. Maybe there’s too much oak? It’s very young and all will sort itself out nicely."
92 Points Drink 2010 - 2016 Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front

The winemaker says:
The wine has undergone six months oak maturation using a mixture of French and American oak.
Colour: It has a rich deep red colour with vibrant purple hues.
Nose: The nose shows lifted ripe plums and spice with subtle rose petal and berry fruit on the nose with hints of vanillin and cedar oak.
Palate: On the palate plums and fruit cake come together with chocolate and liquorice flavours upon which soft fine tannins and fragrant oak combine for an even round finish.Sue Hodder

Winery/Label Information:
Wynns Coonawarra Estate was the first winery to be established in the Coonawarra, by John Riddoch in 1896. The winery is located on the world famous strip of 'Terra Rossa' soil that produces fruit with exceptional quality. Launched in 1952 as Coonawarra Estate Claret, this wine has long upheld Wynns Coonawarra Estate's reputation as a producer of premium Coonawarra Shiraz. Typically the Wynns Coonawarra Estate Shiraz has aromas reminiscent of ground black pepper, mulberry and raspberry, through to blackberry at the riper end of the spectrum. Oak is used to mature and increase the wine's complexity, without dominating its distinctive cool-climate character. A medium bodied wine with a lengthy finish that will age gracefully in the tradition of the original Wynns Hermitage.
Wynns Coonawarra Estate was the first winery to be established in Coonawarra, by John Riddoch in 1896. The winery is located on the world famous strip of 'Terra Rossa' soil that produces fruit of an exceptionally high quality, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon.
Today Wynns Coonawarra Estate is the
Coonawarra's pre-eminent wine producer, with the largest holding of the region's best and oldest vineyards. The terra rossa soil and cool climate produce low yields of intensely flavoured grapes, and the resulting wines have long been regarded as some of Australia's greatest, known for their richness and longevity.
Wynns Coonawarra Estate, under Sue Hodder who has been Chief Winemaker since 1998, produces six wines every year. In vintages where the quality of grapes is exceptional, two flagship reds are made, the John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon, and the Michael Shiraz.
