Greetings wine lovers, There has been a lot of research and product testing going on at the Your Wine Guy office. Plenty of great quality new vintages and brands that should be finding their way into wine racks and glasses around the country. Here are two new labels that really stood out recently and we also revisit a couple of wines that we offered last year that now taste even better, which was a pretty hard task given that one of them already scored 98 Points!

Geoff Merrill Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 $35.00 per bottle – click this link to order Geoff Merrill really understands how much wine can improve when given a few years to mature and this new release Cabernet is a shining example. That’s right, his new release is from the 2005 vintage. The years in the bottle have mellowed those classic cabernet tannins and the wine shows blackcurrant, earth and cedar, and some minty liquorice with a fine structured and textured palate. Thomas Estate Vineyards Reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz 2005 $50.00 per bottle – click this link to order Trophy Winner for Best Shiraz at the Boutique Wine Awards as well as a Gold medal at the Great Australian Shiraz Challenge 2008 where it was rated the fourth best in Australia goes to show how good this wine is. After another couple of years in the bottle the complexity has increased and the Thomas Vineyard Estate Reserve Shiraz is absolutely magnificent. It has all that you look for in a premium McLaren Vale Shiraz with rich layers of dark fruits (blackberry, plum) combining with chocolate aromas that follow on to the palate and continue for ages. Halliday gave it 94 points back in 2007 but I think it has improved since then. 96 Points YWG Drink to 2022+ 6 bottle case (only 9 left)

Leogate Estate Reserve Hunter Valley Shiraz 2009 $25.00 per bottle – click this link to order The latest vintage has been incredibly tough on the winemakers in the Hunter Valley, so much so that you won’t be seeing many red wines from 2012 showing up at all. With this in mind there are still some amazing examples from the 2009 vintage available and the Leogate Estate Reserve is one of those examples. The wine shows beautifully integrated fruit and oak perfectly matching the characters from the nose with plums, red berries on display with some delicious spicy oak backing it all up. The price of this wine will be increasing at the end of next week so I suggest you get in while you can at this price. 95 Points YWG Drink to 2020+ 6 bottle case (only 8 left)

Moss Wood Margaret River Chardonnay 2009 $60 per bottle – click this link to order This was one of my favourite releases last year and tasting it again recently, it shows no sign of slowing down on its path to increasing complexity. Now showing a touch of honey that beautifully combines with the almond nougat aromas, the palate has some ripe melon and citrus fruit with a slight nutty flavour and a creamy finish that last on the palate for ages. I actually gave this the same score as last year but enjoyed it even more. 98 Points YWG Drink to 2020+ 6 bottle case (only 10 left)
