Winery: Sandalford
Region: Margaret River
Variety: Shiraz
Your Wine Guy says:
A fantastic Margaret River Shiraz from Sandalford. Dark purplish-black in the glass, the nose has enticing notes of dark chocolate along with blueberry, dark berry fruit characters. It has a strong presence on the palate yet with fine enough tannins that makes it terrific current drinking, or another good cellaring proposition.

Critics say:
"Impossible not to enjoy this. It’s soft, generous, mouthfilling and delicious – all the big guns of red wine enjoyment. It tastes of sundry summer berries and cedary, coffeed oak, though in truth it all comes across as soft and seamless. Mighty fine wine to drink."

"...had Bourne enthusing: Nice ripe cherry and hints of raspberry and sweet spices. The palate follows, with red fruit and spice. Dusty tannins to finish."

“Very good colour and clarity; distinct chocolate and mocha notes ex oak; good mouthfeel.” Screwcap. 14.5% alc.

The winemaker says:
Colour: Dark cherry red with a hint of magenta.
Nose: Beautifully ripe and rich brambly berries with blackberry classically coming through. Well integrated vanillin and chocolate-like oak.
Palate: A full-bodied wine of great depth and power. Certainly the ripe dark fruits are there but so are the hallmarks of spice with anise, clove and cinnamon all wafting through. The oak is in full support and the finish is one of sweet fruit flavours and balance. The tannins are velvet-like. This wine is just a baby at release and history tells us it will age in to a beautiful first quality leather chaise lounge in the years to come. Minimum of 7 years cellaring and up to 20 years if you can wait that long. – Paul Boulden, Winemaker Sandalford Wines
