Your Wine Guy says:

Wynns ‘John Riddoch’ Cabernet Sauvignon is always classic example of extraordinary Coonawarra Cabernet power and refinement. The ‘John Riddoch’ has a remarkably well deserved reputation for outstanding quality under $100 per bottle. The nose shows typical Coonawarra Cabernet minty-ness along with substantial amounts of black currant, dark plum and hints of chocolate combining beautifully with cedary, toasty oak. These characters follow on to the palate with profound intensity and these super-concentrated flavours of black currant, dark plum and chocolate balanced beautifully beside cedary, toasty oak (a testament to the high-class Coonawarra fruit from a tough vintage) finding an amazing balance between strong fruit and tannin structure for a Coonawarra Cabernet of this age. Superb now and will continue to be for at least 10 years, if not 20 or more (if you can stay away from it that is).

Critics say:

"The 2006 Wynns Coonawarra Estate John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon was matured in 100 percent new French oak for 22 months. I took one swig of it and thought, there’s a fair bit of wine here. This is the kind of deep, plush, cabernet-to-its-back-teeth wine that could really set your heart both on Coonawarra, and cabernet itself. It sings sweetly of both. It tastes of blackcurrant, tobacco, mint and freshly polished cedar wood and its tannins hit early in the wine and then carry on throughout - though they never really overpower the wine. It’s part of what makes this wine seem classical. There’s an olive-like strike here too, black olive that is, and a minor (very minor) amount of dark chocolate too. Balanced, structured, concentrated and persistent."
95 Points Drink 2014 - 2025 By Campbell Mattinson; The Wine Front

"John Riddoch 2006 is as good as we’ve seen since the first vintage in 1982. It’s excitingly floral and seductive, silky textured, powerfully concentrated and with authoritative tannins – made unequivocally for long cellaring." Chris Shanahan

The winemaker says:

The 2006 vintage spent 22 months in new French oak.
Colour: Intense, almost black deep red.
Nose: aromas of classic Coonawarra Cabernet - Blackberry and dark fruit aromas are complemented by dark chocolate, mint and cedary oak.
Palate: The palate is full bodied with rich dark fruit framed by silky tannins that add to the long finish. Sue Hodder
