Winery: Carrick
Region: Central Otago, New Zealand
Variety: Pinot Noir
Vintage: 2009
Your Wine Guy says:
This wine is produced from the declassified barrels of Carricks top label. Matured in French oak about 20% of which are new. The 2009 Unravelled shows excellent depth of colour for a Pinot Noir. The nose entices with aromas of black cherries, spice and toasty oak. The palate is elegant with flavours of black cherry, spicy oak and plum. Soft tannins provide structure and finishes long with lingering flavours of spicy, black cherries.

Critics say:
"An all-round expression that delivers elegant red fruit and matches it with gentle oak and nicely understated winemaking. It has plenty of red fruits and cherries on the palate, some cola, spice and a sweep of lacy tannins through the finish. Shows juicy attractive appeal in spades."
Nick Stock – Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine, Feb/Mar 2011.
The winemaker says:The perfumed aromatics of the 2009 Unravelled are dominated by blackberries, cherries, chocolate and spice.
The palate is vibrant, packed with red cherries and has good focus and direction. This is a nicely structured, generous wine with good length and finish that is immediately rewarding. - Carrick Wines
Winery Information:
Carrick, a small winery situated around the corner from Felton Road, incorporates a cellar door and restaurant that overlooks the spectacular Bannockburn Inlet. It’s a beautiful place to visit with some great wines and very helpful and friendly staff (great food too if you’re lucky enough to make the trip to the cellar door and eat at the restaurant).
Carrick’s owner Steve Green has long been an avid ambassador of the outstanding quality of wines able to be produced from vines in the Central Otago region since the very early 90’s. Steve is on the Board of Wine New Zealand, and has been both the chairperson of Central Otago Pinot Noir Limited and also the President of the Central Otago Winegrowers Association.
Winemaker Jane Docherty came to Carrick recently from just down the lake at Felton Road Wines where she had significantly proved her worth and is blessed with an exceptional palate and if you make a booking in advance you may even be lucky enough to have Jane take you through their impressive selection of wines herself.
Favourites here are Pinot Noir, Riesling and Chardonnays (the Rosé was great too, but sadly not enough of the Rosé is produced to be imported into Australia).
