Winery: Mount Langi Ghiran
Region: Grampians VIC, Henty VIC
Variety: Riesling
Vintage: 2008

Your Wine Guy says:
Pale straw in colour. Quite intense lime and citrus fruits with attractive blossomy characters tempt the nose. The palate then completes the picture with some zesty lime and mineral notes along with a refreshing acidity to carry the flavours in the mouth for a good length of time. Potential for further cellaring possibly past 2019 if you like the more developed honeyed notes of aged Riesling but right now it has great freshness and is a clean crisp example of how good Grampian Riesling can be. Reminded me of the Drumborg Rieslings.

Critics say:

“Very crisp, lively and fresh; a wine which reinforces the right of the Grampians to be regarded as a top class region for riesling, the green apple, citrus and pear flavours delicate yet intense.”
94 Points Drink to 2018 James Halliday Wine Companion

The winemaker says:

Colour: Pale straw green edges.
Nose: Lemon peel, lime blossom and grapefruit, very lifted and aromatic.
Palate: Tight acidity with terrific fruit precision, grapefruit and mineral notes, great length.
An excellent cool summer with cold nights in February has delivered Riesling with bright citrus and mineral characters and good intensity. All grapes were harvested early in March to retain natural acidity, before the heat wave hit prior to Easter.
Careful, selective hand pickings and whole bunch pressing is used to minimize phenolic characters, maximise fruit expression, and aid in bottle development.

Winery Information:

"The Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard is one of the most isolated and unique sites in Australian viticulture set against the dramatic backdrop of the Great Dividing Range in the Grampian's region about 2 hours drive west of Melbourne.
The vineyard, with its towering granite cliffs and loamy red soils, encapsulates an extraordinary sense of place. Mount Langi Ghiran (Aboriginal for home of the yellow-tailed black cockatoo), or Langi, was originally planted in 1870 and has become the home of one of Australia's finest cool climate wines, the Langi Shiraz.
The diverse nature and breathtaking beauty of the Grampians have been four hundred million years in the making." - Mount Langi Ghiran
